Fire
is an important land management tool that can be used to create,
protect and achieve sustainable environmental practices for a
property, area or region.
It is well
documented that within Australia, fire is used successfully as a
method of weed control and to reduce the intensity and scale of
wildfires that can cause the loss of life, property, equipment and
livestock.
With regular
prescribed burning, the control of undesirable (weed) species is
made easier, thereby helping to reduce the fire hazard within a
particular region.
The two main
reasons for using prescribed burning are:
1. That for
native species (which often require fire to propagate), fire reduces
the competition for survival and regeneration, by eliminating
invasive weed species
2. By removing
heavy vegetation from around the area, it allows ease of access and
visibility for chemical control of weeds.
Centrogen’s
trained staff are able to provide recommendations on Fire Management
Strategies through onsite assessment and consultation with the
landowner that are specifically designed to:
a. protect
life, property, infrastructure and equipment on the property and
areas adjacent to the property by reducing the risk of intense,
extensive and frequent wildfires;
b. minimise
the risk that fires originating on the property, may cause damage to
neighboring land;
c. minimise the risk of fires spreading onto the property from
surrounding lands;
d. impose
a fire regime that will contribute to the maintenance of the
diversity of natural biological communities of the area and hence
sustainability;
e. protect
fire sensitive plant and animal communities from inappropriate fire
regimes;
f.
help provide an environment appropriate to the use of the
property;
g. help
protect environmental values of the property. These environmental
values include:
·
Bio-Diversity;
·
Habitat Retention;
·
Native Fish Breeding Sites;
·
Soil Conservation;
·
Catchment Values;
·
Native Fauna; and,
·
Native Flora.
Centrogen’s
Controlled Burn Programs are developed in accordance with the
relevant Commonwealth, State, and local governments, or in
accordance with other relevant legislation, instructions or
guidelines, and are carried out in consultation with local fire
authorities.
Centrogen is
able to offer the following services as part of their Fire
Management Programs:
·
Fire Break Maintenance;
·
Wild Fire Response;
·
Controlled Burns for Weed
Control;
·
Erosion Minimisation;
·
Burn Plan Development and
Documentation;
·
Safety Plan Development and Documentation;
·
Environmental Control Plan and Documentation; and,
·
Mapping and Photo Monitoring.
Centrogen’s
trained staff are able to provide Fire Management Strategies and
design Controlled Burn Programs as part of a Total Environmental
Management package, that is tailored to
the specific needs of the area, are cost efficient and provide value
for money for the land owner.
