Weedbug (Click to Enlarge Image)State Governments acknowledge that one of the most significant environmental challenges facing the country is to minimise the impact of weeds. Since the early 1990's Centrogen has developed the WEEDBUG® technology which is a cost effective and environmentally safe way of dealing with this challenge.

The Weedbug is a patented rotary chemical wick wipe applicator. Basically, the Weedbug is used to apply small quantities of concentrated Glyphosate (Roundup Biactive) onto tall growing weeds. This process targets tall weeds and leaves the more desirable low-growing species unaffected and this over time changes the dominant species type of an area from taller (undesirable weeds) to shorter (desirable species).

Benefits:

Weedbug (Click to Enlarge Image)This technologically advanced method of applying chemical has significant advantages over spraying, including:

  • Reduction in the number of mowing activities required.
  • Quality improvements (with reduction in tall weeds).
  • Selectively targets tall weeds without damaging
    desirable lower growing grasses.
  • Reduction in stone throw claims (through activity reduction).
  • Reduction in production of 'Green' waste.
  • Can provide control of some Noxious Weed species.
  • Spinning action provides full coverage to plants in most circumstances.
  • Uses less chemical (Roundup mix) than spraying.
  • Reduced risk to operators, residents, fauna.

How does the Weedbug work?

Weedbug Animation (Click to Enlarge Image)The Weedbug is a patented and safe chemical application system that is used to apply small quantities of Glyphosate (Roundup Biactive) onto tall growing weeds.

The chemical application system uses the properties of centrifugal force to drive the herbicide from the chemical holding tank, through the disk reservoir and onto the radiating rope 'wicks'. These porous wicks are attached to the underside of height adjustable spinning disks.

The operator simply wipes the predetermined concentrations of chemical across vegetation at appropriate treatment heights to target specific grass and weeds. The higher growing grasses or weeds die, allowing more desirable low-growing species to thrive and eventually dominate the treated area.

Where can the Weedbug be used?

The equipment is very adaptable and can be used to control weeds along roadsides, parks and playing fields,
in open space areas, drains and anywhere tractors can operate.

Slopebug / Reachbug

Slopebug (Click to Enlarge Image)The Slopebug (sometimes called the Reachbug) is a reach arm with a Weedbug attachment.

The Slopebug is commonly used along sloping roadside areas where it is unsafe to use a tractor (hence the term Slopebug). The tractor uses the extra reach of the arm to allow treatment to difficult to reach areas such as slopes, batters and drains.

Roundup® Biactive Herbicide

Roundup (Click to Enlarge Image)Centrogen uses Roundup Biactive Herbicide in the Weedbug machines, and this is the chemical that gets wiped onto higher growing grasses and weeds.

Roundup Biactive is tough on weeds, easy on the environment. It also has a new formulation for weed control in aquatic and sensitive environmental areas.
